VASP

A Virtual Asset Service Provider is a regulated intermediary such as an exchange, broker, or custodial wallet operator covered by AML rules.

The FATF definition covers exchanges, brokers, custodial wallets, and transfer services, and inclusion brings KYC, AML, and Travel Rule duties under national law.

The boundary is the contested part: whether self-custody software, P2P venues without custody, or protocol developers fall inside has been fought in rulemakings and courts, and the answer decides which tools can exist without demanding identity.
