Cold Storage

Keeping private keys offline on a hardware wallet, air-gapped device, or other disconnected medium to reduce remote theft risk.

Cold storage addresses remote theft: malware, phishing, and platform failure cannot reach keys that never touch a networked device. Hardware wallets, air-gapped signers, and paper or metal backups are the common forms.

It does not address coercion, physical seizure, or loss. The seed backup becomes the sensitive object, and its storage, duplication, and inheritance handling are where cold setups actually fail.
