No-KYC Monero Payment Path: Cash to XMR

This procedure starts with cash, buys a small amount of Monero through the RetoSwap network running Haveno, moves it to Feather Wallet, then pays one XMR invoice. It avoids a centralized exchange account and an exchange identity check. It does not promise anonymity, legality in every jurisdiction, a fixed price, or a trade without a counterparty dispute.

Before you start

  • A supported desktop computer with at least 10 GB free, current operating-system updates, and a private place for the wallet seed.
  • A small cash amount you can afford to have delayed or disputed, tamper-evident inner packaging, rigid outer packaging, tracking, and delivery confirmation.
  • A recipient or merchant that gives you a native Monero invoice with an address and exact XMR amount. Do not use a Bitcoin, Ethereum, or exchange-deposit address.
  • Enough uninterrupted time to keep RetoSwap online during trade events and to answer the seller inside the trade chat.

There is no fixed total price. Before accepting, the RetoSwap offer displays the exchange rate, amount, security deposit if any, and trade fees. Add packaging, tracked delivery, insurance if used, and the final Monero network fee shown by Feather. Record all four categories. If the premium or total loss exposure is unacceptable, stop before taking the offer.

STOP CONDITION: do not send cash, click Payment Sent, or broadcast XMR until the address, amount, deadline, counterparty terms, and recovery record have each been checked. A no-KYC route is not a no-risk route.

1. Install RetoSwap from its official distribution

Download the build for your operating system only from the RetoSwap provider page or its linked official release. Keep the installer beside its signature or checksum file when one is offered, and follow the platform verification link on the download page before running it. Do not use a search advertisement, forum attachment, or seller-supplied installer.

Start RetoSwap and allow the first synchronization to finish. This guide follows the Haveno UI 1.1-series workflow documented on 10 August 2026. If your tabs do not include Account, Buy, Portfolio, and Funds, stop and update from the official distribution rather than guessing equivalent controls.

VERIFY: The installed application identifies the expected RetoSwap network, opens without a certificate warning, and shows the network as synchronized before you create a payment account.

2. Create a cash-by-mail payment account

Go to Account → Add new account → Cash by Mail. Select the currency you physically hold. Enter the return name or nym and return address that the seller or courier should use if the parcel cannot be delivered. These details are not invisible: the trade counterparty and delivery network can receive them. Use accurate information that can actually receive a returned parcel.

In Additional information, write the exact packaging, tracking, delivery-confirmation, and deadline terms you can follow. Prepare the tamper-evident bag, outer parcel, tape, camera, and shipping method before taking an offer. Do not put an outside contact handle in a normal offer's terms; Haveno permits outside contact for a protected no-deposit offer because the seller must pass the offer passphrase separately.

VERIFY: Account lists one cash-by-mail record with the correct currency, return name or nym, return address, and written packaging terms. No bank or electronic-payment credential is present.

3. Select a no-deposit cash offer

Open Buy → No-deposit. Filter for your currency and cash-by-mail method. Read the full offer details, price premium, seller terms, trade limit, and dispute route. No-deposit offers are capped at 1.5 XMR and are passphrase protected. Use only the contact details published with that no-deposit offer to request the passphrase. Do not negotiate a different price or settlement outside RetoSwap.

Start with the smallest amount that produces a useful final payment. Paste the passphrase into the offer dialog, check the total fiat amount one final time, and take the offer. Save the trade ID and seller terms without copying the passphrase into cloud notes.

VERIFY: The offer is explicitly marked No-deposit, its amount is no more than 1.5 XMR, the seller's terms match your prepared shipping method, and you have the passphrase before clicking Take offer.

4. Package and send the cash

Count the exact amount shown in the trade. Record a continuous video or high-resolution sequence showing the cash, the tamper-evident inner bag, the already-addressed outer package, and the tracking label. Put the sealed inner bag inside a rigid parcel that does not reveal the contents by touch. Use matching addresses on inner and outer packaging, seal every edge, and follow every seller term recorded before acceptance.

Send with tracking and recipient-confirmed delivery. Keep the original receipt and local evidence until the XMR is in Feather and the dispute window is closed. Postal insurance and rules for mailing cash vary, so confirm the chosen courier's current terms before handing over the parcel.

VERIFY: Your evidence set shows the counted amount, sealed tamper-evident inner bag, matching inner and outer addresses, sealed parcel, tracking number, and delivery-confirmation service.

5. Mark payment only after handoff

Return to Portfolio → Open trades, open the matching trade ID, enter the tracking details requested by the workflow, and click Payment Sent only after the parcel is accepted by the courier. Keep RetoSwap available and answer inside the trade chat. Do not tell the seller to release early and do not accept a request to move settlement outside the app.

When delivery is confirmed, wait for the seller to mark payment received. The Haveno protocol then releases the purchased XMR to the local wallet. If the deadline passes or the seller disputes the package, use the in-app support or arbitration path and preserve the original evidence. Do not start a second replacement trade while the first remains open.

VERIFY: Portfolio shows Payment Sent, the saved tracking number matches the carrier receipt, and the trade chat contains no unresolved seller question.

6. Create and back up Feather Wallet

Download Feather Wallet from its provider page and follow the linked signature-verification procedure before opening it. Select Create new wallet. Keep the default remote node over Tor unless your threat model requires a node you operate. Set a unique local wallet password.

Write the recovery seed by hand in order. Confirm it in Feather, then place it somewhere offline and physically separate from the computer. The seed controls the funds. Do not photograph it, paste it into a browser, email it, or give it to “support.” Close Feather and reopen the wallet with the password before receiving money.

VERIFY: Feather reopens with the new wallet password, the written seed exactly matches the app's confirmation, and the backup is offline and separate from the computer.

7. Withdraw from RetoSwap to a fresh Feather subaddress

In Feather open Receive, create a new subaddress, and label it RETOSWAP FIRST WITHDRAWAL. Copy the address. In RetoSwap open Funds → Send funds, paste the address, and compare the first six and last six characters on both screens. Send the available purchased amount, leaving any fee the app requires.

Save the transaction ID. Wait until Feather shows the incoming transfer and reports it as spendable. Do not judge the result from RetoSwap's “sent” state alone. The receiving wallet is the acceptance point.

VERIFY: The first six and last six characters match on both applications, RetoSwap records the withdrawal transaction ID, and Feather shows the expected incoming amount after confirmations.

SOURCES: Feather receive transaction guide (retrieved 10 August 2026); RetoSwap funds workflow (retrieved 10 August 2026).

8. Pay one native XMR invoice

Ask the recipient for a fresh native Monero address and exact XMR amount. In Feather open Send, paste the address, enter the amount, and compare the displayed destination with the invoice. If the invoice contains an integrated payment identifier, use the complete value supplied by the recipient. Review the fee and resulting balance before confirming with the wallet password.

Save the outgoing transaction ID and wait for recipient confirmation. A transaction ID proves a broadcast, not that you paid the intended person. The final pass requires the named invoice to be marked paid by the recipient.

VERIFY: The recipient confirms the exact invoice as paid, Feather shows the outgoing transaction and final fee, and the remaining balance matches your written calculation.

What this setup does not protect

  • No-deposit offers remove the buyer's initial XMR deposit but also remove that financial penalty against walking away. The seller controls access with a passphrase and chooses whether to accept the risk.
  • The seller, outside contact method, courier, cameras, device, IP timing, and return address can identify or link the trade.
  • Cash can be lost, stolen, counterfeited, delayed, or disputed. Multisignature and arbitration do not prove what was inside a parcel.
  • Monero price and offer premiums move. RetoSwap does not guarantee liquidity, a particular rate, or an available cash offer.
  • Wallet malware, a leaked seed, a wrong address, or an impersonated invoice can still cause irreversible loss.
  • Tax, reporting, money-transmission, sanctions, and mailing rules depend on jurisdiction. No identity check by the software is not a legal exemption.

Maintenance and recovery

Keep the RetoSwap trade record until the dispute window is closed. Keep the Feather seed offline for as long as the wallet can receive funds. Before any later payment, update both applications from their official distributions, verify the recipient address again, and send a small amount first when a large payment or new recipient makes the loss unacceptable.
